What's In a Name?

Faith Lutheran Church.
Why was this name chosen for this Lutheran congregation and where did the name come from?

Once we decided to form a new congregation and after we found a place to worship, it seemed that the next order of business would be to name our congregation. Over the next couple of weeks we were trying to determine what we would call ourselves. We knew the name had to have meaning for us in our current state. It needed to be inspiring for someone looking for Christ. It also needed to have meaning and relevance to us for our future.
We knew that when we heard it, it would resonate with everyone. We just had to find it. We had many, many suggestions from Spirit of Hope to United Lutheran Church, some traditional names and some contemporary names. Some names were emailed in, some were written on sheets of paper in crayon! A name can be the difference between success and failure. A good name describes everything you are and everything you will be.
Finally, on May 16, 2010 we had it narrowed down to 3 names: Faith, Hope, and United. During a congregational meeting after worship we all voted on the name. There was no age limit everyone had a voice and we became Faith Lutheran Church.

Faith Lutheran Church. Yes, this is who we are. We really needed to have faith in Jesus Christ as our beliefs were being challenged by the ELCA. We needed to have faith in our future, as we knew we could not go back. “Faith is not knowing what the future holds but knowing who holds the future!”
